2015 Kent and Co Pinot Noir

From the Ellis and Pudney vineyard, located on Coola Rd, Burungule, 20kms south-west of Mount Gambier. The soil is a fractured flint over limestone. It is a hard doing, free draining soil that limits vigour. The cooling Southern Ocean is a stone’s throw away and ensure a temperate, maritime climate with ever present breezes, minimising disease pressure.

The wine was made to showcase the inherent savoury fruit characters developed in the vineyard, from a growing season that offered perfect conditions. Summer started off hotter than average and dry, but February was unusually cool, but without significant precipitation. March offered up perfect ripening conditions with warm clear days and the fruit was harvested at 12.5 baume in the 20th of March.

Following harvest the grapes were cold soaked for 48 hrs prior to fermentation in open fermenters and post fermentation remained on skins for seven days.

The finished wine displays shows Pinosity and complexity. Distinctly savoury it showcases black cherry fruits, tinged with cardamom and clove spice and rose petal aromas. The palate is fine and persistent, showing the black cherry fruits, with a fine and resonating finish, leaving a savoury. Earthy imprint after swallowing.

2016 Kent and Co Sauvignon Blanc

The fruit for this wine was sourced from Bob Gleed’s Yahl vineyard, which is 3kms east of the Barn and is some 7km from the centre of Mount Gambier. The cool temperate climate, typified by cool nights and high diurnal variation is ideal for growing superior Sauvignon Blanc.

The wine was made to highlight the primary fruit characters of the variety, with a portion of the final blend being barrel fermented in older oak to add texture, mouthfeel and complexity.

Immediately the bright varietal gooseberry and nettle aromas come to the fore. The palate is crisp and lively, with the primary fruit flavours of Tahitian lime and gooseberry prevalent, with the barrel fermentation lending a textural nuance and enhanced mouthfeel. The finish is refreshing and fine, the purity of the variety resonating on the palate.
